PBS Airs “The Story Behind Wacky Warning Labels”

We have just received word that PBS stations across the country are now broadcasting a video program entitled “The Story Behind Wacky Warning Labels,” produced by the Center for America. In the segment, your “Let’s Be Fair” host interviews experts in business and law who reveal how the wacky warning labels we see throughout America are the result of runaway litigation that is draining our economy of jobs and innovation.

Beth Thieme, CEO of Amigo Mobility International, a company that makes motorized vehicles for disabled and elderly people, talks about how the money that Amigo has had to spend on litigation could have otherwise been spent on creating jobs.  In the mid-1990’s, Beth testified about the need for common sense legal reform before the committee in the Michigan House of Representatives that was debating product liability reform, and she brings tremendous passion and years of experience as a business leader to our discussion.

Ted Frank, founder of the Center for Class Action Fairness and an adjunct fellow at the Manhattan Institute for Public Policy, also explains how abusive class action lawsuits allow plaintiff lawyers to receive huge cash payments but often leave their “clients” (the class members) with discount coupons that are worth virtually nothing.  Ted has been described by the Wall Street Journal as “a leading tort reform advocate,” and he is often called upon by the media to explain how lawsuit abuse is hurting America.

The PBS segment is expected to be viewed by 5 million households over the next couple of months.  That will add to the 190 million audience exposures the Wacky Warning Labels™ Contest has generated so far in 2011 on networks such as ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX!  To see this video, click here.
